A Destination course you can trust

The cooking we teach encompasses, but is not limited to, our many years of experience with ski holiday operator YSE, the Val d'Isère chalet specialists that are obsessed with food.

While YSE's winter food baffles guests year after year our summer cookery school extends far beyond six nights of  four-course meals suitable for a winter skiing holiday. After a week or two with us your cookery journey will have taken a huge leap forward weather it is just beginning or already well established.

Our courses are a perfect balance of learning and fun. We offer 2 distinctively different courses open to anyone from the age of 20.

12 Day Cookery Foundation

This is a comprehensive, 12 day course starting from the very basics of cookery. Building core skills to work towards a solid grasp of all methods of cookery.

This course is suitable for someone looking to venture into any aspect of the catering industry, be it a winter ski season, boat work, restaurants, catering or even if they just want to impress their friends.

Two weeks allows us to progress through and cement good core skills and cover all of the methods of cookery you would cover in a longer course leaving the practice and repetition for once you are back in your own kitchen. There is also a little more focus on meal service, timing, planning and presentation.

In addition, our Après support package will assist you to keep the ball moving long after the course has finished. Access to our forum and students face book page for direct help with everything from recipe's to work.

The minimum age is 20 but there is no upper age limit.

6 Day Cookery Retreat

This 6 day course is designed for someone that has had some home cooking experience and is interested in building on their skill base. It factors in a little more time off to enjoy Val d’Isère in the summer.

It suits somebody wanting to have a cooking holiday or find some new inspiration.

There is no set age group for this course (as long as you are over 20) but it tends to attract students that are 30 plus.

Why not bring your partner (or a friend)? For half the price of your course they can share your room, join us for breakfast, lunch and dinner and spend their week enjoying everything the Tarentaise valley has to offer.

About Us

Christina  Slinn

FRONT OF HOUSE

Christina has a long work experience in the corporate business world where she worked in Sales and Marketing in the automotive industry in Germany for over 8 years. In 2009 she decided to turn her back on her "real job" and after a few years of travelling Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Canada found her way into hospitality. Starting in hostels, she quickly made her way into a different field of the industry and ended up hosting in super luxury chalets in Switzerland - where she met Murray in 2013.

Since then she has worked in a variety of positions, including housekeeping on private estates, hosting weddings and other events, and working on yachts, in chalets and villas. In winter 2015 she joined YSE where she worked alongside Murray in Chalet La Couchire, and quickly got sucked into the Val vortex. Since the 2016/17 season they run YSE's chalet hotel Les Chardons together.

OPERATIONS / TUTOR

Murray and Scott have a long history of working together. They first met on the YSE staff bus to Val d'Isère in 2004 when they both worked their first 3 seasons together. He too has a vast and varied curriculum to look back at, from restaurants, hotel and chalet work to many different galleys on luxury yachts and cruise liners all over the world. From 2007 - 2011 he worked as the head teacher at the Grange Cookery School in Frome, then eventually kicking off the Grange restaurant.

Since 2012, Murray has been freelancing in many different positions, taking him to some of the most exotic and exciting locations in the world. Despite his gipsy lifestyle, he is always drawn back to Val d'Isère, YSE and the mountains - a combination which is hard to beat. Throughout the winter season he runs YSE's chalet-style hotel Les Chardons in Val d'Isère's town centre - which is also the location of our cooking courses.
